This one's an oldie but a goodie. 
The cracking brief: "We'd like to get more people interested."
The problem: The previous year's piece was uber plain-jane. As any good researcher would do, we jumped in canoes and got busy. After hours near capsizing fun, there was a strong sense of 'photos don't do this experience justice'. So out came the paints and before long the ground was covered with ripples, splashes and waves. So much energy, so canoe.

Instant hit, we'd struck a massive chord with the client that rang true with paddlers also, interest in the event rose 60% and participation up 30% on previous years. So, wins all roung. Paddle on.
